Now, let's take a look at this week's Half-Elves!

Half-Elf Barbarian

Half-Elf Barbarian

As with half-elves in most fantasy settings, the half-elves of Chronicle are sort of stuck as outsiders to society at large. The humans and elves of Chronicle have a better relationship than in some other settings, but a half-elf still feels generally disconnected while they struggle with which side they want to identify with. Some half-elves identify more with humans and act more like humans. Such is the case with this half-elf barbarian.

He comes from one of the barbarian tribes of the southern plains. These barbarians are mostly human though half-elves and half-orcs can be found among them. He carries a greatsword, typical of barbarians and very useful in their wars with the orc tribes.

Next up is the half-elf bard. This half-elf identifies more with her elven side. Taking up the art of song, she offers her aide to adventurers and warriors as a support virtuoso.

Bards in Chronicle are trained at one of several Bardic Colleges throughout the kingdoms. She most likely trained at either the Celeque college or the Belanthian college.

That's it for this week. Check back next week for the Cleric and Druid and make sure to come back tomorrow for the latest Chronicle strip!

Character Codex - Round 15 - Halfling Barbarian and Bard

Greetings Chroniclers and welcome to the Character Codex!

We're working our way through all 77 race/class combinations in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook.  We're showing off the Halfling Barbarian and Bard today.  If you've missed any previous entries you can catch up HERE!

Now, I know, I'm skipping ahead by doing halflings, but I have a reason. After halflings then we'll do half-elves, half-orcs, and finally humans,

Virtual tabletop players, make sure to pick up some free tokens suitable for use in any virtual tabletop environment.

Here come the halflings!

Halfling Barbarian

Halfling Barbarian

First up is the Halfling Barbarian. Halfling Barbarians have become a bit more common in the last decade or so with several tabletop RPGs having these wild halflings roaming deserts and plains. So I went in a slightly different direction and made her a sea reaver. I grew up on Dragonlance and there were sea barbarians in that setting. They were pirates, but more like actual pirates and less like swashbuckling Jack Sparrows. It was nice to see these barbarian pirates show back up in Pathfinder.

For her design I wanted her to wear flowing clothes that could breathe well on the open water. Also, halflings on Chronicle, called Caun, love bright colors, scarves, sashes, and patches. So I had to toss a few on her. She's very utilitarian in design. More function, less flash than other pirates. Her harpoon is actually a medium-sized one handed harpoon.

Halfling Bard

Halfling Bard

Next up is the Halfling Bard. The Caun of Chronicle are nomadic and they keep their history in stories and in song. Most Caun can tell a good story or hum a nice tune, but Caun Bards are something special. They are masters of their trade and one of the few classes of Caun that the dwarves of Jaxstein will allow into the dwarven capital.

As I mentioned previously, Chronicle's halflings love color. Patches and scarves add accents and this guy has already begun to accessorize his performance outfit. The green hair comes from their fey blood. We'll get more into that in the coming weeks. But one of the key differences between Caun and regular halflings is that they are fey, giving them that odd social disconnect that so many fey have.

That's it for this week! Next week we'll take a look at the divine side of halflings with the Halfling Cleric and Druid.

Character Codex Round 10 - Gnome Barbarian and Bard

Welcome back to the Character Codex!  We're working our way through all 77 core race and class combination in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook.  We just finished up the elves and this week we're beginning the invasion of the gnomes! That's 22 down!  you can see them all in the Character Codex Gallery.

Also, if you use a virtual tabletop you can pick up free tokens every week for the latest entries.  If you're looking for dwarves or elves, you can pick up each 11 piece token set over in the Artist's Store.  These tokens are already formatted and sized to import into any virtual tabletop  program like Roll 20 for example.

And now, on with the gnomes!

Gnome Barbarian

Gnome Barbarian

First up, we have the Gnome Barbarian.  Part caveman, part Celtic warrior, this little guy makes up for his size with his fury.

Gnomes in Chronicle tend to be very civilized and intellectual.  So this guy is a great departure right off the bat.  What's not to love about a feral gnome?!

Gnome Bard

Gnome Bard

Next up we have the gnome bard.  This is more like the gnomes of Chronicle.  Gnomes in Chronicle are sponges for knowledge.  When they come of age, they devote themselves to a field of study and join that field's bureau.  A gnome's bureau is its family.  Gnomes are not interested in recording blood lineages, but rather pass down the great breakthroughs and discoveries of those in the bureau before them.

This particular gnome would be using the Archivist alternate class features.
I love the Naturalist ability for this alternate class.  Basically, the bard carries around a Bestiary and looks up monsters then tells everyone how to beat it.  I imagine that's what she's doing here - checking her notes on how to tame an owlbear maybe.

That's it this week!  Next week, come back for the gnome cleric and the gnome druid.  The gnome cleric is one of my all-time favorite Chronicle characters and fans of the original series will be happy to see his reappearance.  So make sure to come back next week!
